Asam klorida adalah larutan akuatik dari gas hydrogen chloride (HCl). Asam klorida ialah asam anorganik kuat yang aplikasinya sangat luas, yaitu sebagai pembersih kerak, pengasaman sumur minyak, industri makanan, dan pengolahan bijih tambang. Asam klorida dapat disintesis melalui beberapa metode yaitu, sintesis dari hidrogen dan gas klorin, by-product dari proses kimia, pembakaran limbah organik, larutan asam klorida dan proses salt-sulphuric acid. Proses sintesis asam klorida dengan menggunakan metode salt-sulphuric acid merupakan metode yang dapat diaplikasikan di Laboratorium Satuan Proses. Tujuan dari penelitian ini memodifikasi rangkaian peralatan sintesis asam klorida, menentukan excess mol optimum H2SO4, dan menentukan temperatur optimum air dalam scrubber. Proses sintesis asam klorida dilakukan dengan mereaksikan 10 gram NaCl dengan H2SO4 98 % pada temperatur 200oC di dalam rangkaian peralatan sintesis asam klorida menggunakan pengaduk magnetic stirrer. Rangkaian peralatan yang digunakan terdiri dari hot plate, erlenmeyer, corong pisah dilengkapi stopper kaca, selang silicon, dan scrubber. Proses sintesis asam klorida dilakukan dengan variasi H2SO4 98 % excess (persen mol) 10 %; 20 %; 30 %; 40 %; 50%; 60 %, dan variasi temperatur air didalam scrubber 5oC; 10oC; 15oC; 20oC; 25oC. Produk yang dihasilkan kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan metode anion dan analisis kuantitatif dengan metode titrasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi rangakain peralatan sintesis asam klorida menghasilkan yield asam klorida yang lebih tinggi dengan hasil uji kualitatif positif keberadaan ion Cl-, sehingga diperoleh excess H2SO4 98% optimum yaitu 40% menghasilkan persentase yield sebesar 59,30%, dan temperatur air dalam scrubber optimum 15oC yang menghasilkan persentase yield sebesar 61,75%, Kata kunci : asam klorida, excess, hydrogen chloride, salt-sulphuric acid, temperatur.

Deskripsi Alternatif :

Hydrochloric acid is aqueous solution of gas hydrogen chloride (HCl). Hydrochloric acid is a strong inorganic acid that used for a variety of things, such as a steel pickling, acidification oil wells, food industry, and ore processing. Hydrochloric acid can be synthesized through various processes, such as the synthesis of hydrogen and chlorine gas, by-product of chemical processes, the combustion of organic waste, a solution of hydrochloric acid and a salt - sulfuric acid process. With using salt-sulfuric acid method, hydrochloric acid synthesis process can be applied in the laboratory of Satuan Proses. The purpose of the research are to modify the equipment of hydrochloric acid synthesis, to determine optimum mole excess of H2SO4 98%, and to determine optimum temperature of water in the scrubber. Hydrochloric acid process is reacting 10 grams of NaCl with H2SO4 98% at 200oC in the equipment of Hydrochloric acid synthesis using magnetic stirrer. The equipment that used for consisting of a hot plate , erlenmeyer , separating funnel with a glass stopper , silicon hoses , and scrubber. Hydrochloric acid synthesis process is performed by variations of excess of H2SO4 98% (mol percent) 10%; 20%; 30%; 40%; 50%; 60% and variations of water temperature in the scrubber, there are 5°C; 10 °C; 15 oC; 20 °C; 25oC. Then the result of product analyzed by using anion method qualitatively and using titration method quantitatively. The results of the research is that with modifying equipment can produce high yields hydrochloric acid with a positive qualitative test results of positive ions Cl-. The results of optimum from excess H2SO4 98% is 40% which resulting yield percentage 59,30% and from the optimum of water temperature in scrubber is 15 ° C which resulting in a yield percentage 61.75%.
