Teknik biofiltrasi merupakan pengolahan limbah alternatif yang dipilih dalam mengendalikan permasalahan limbah sour water di PT PERTAMINA (Persero) RU-III. Penyisihan senyawa NH3 dan H2S dilakukan pada kolom biofilter dengan sabut sawit sebagai medium filter. Modifikasi reaktor dengan sistem tray to tray bertujuan untuk membantu memberikan suplai oksigen tambahan kepada mikroba dalam menguraikan senyawa NH3 dan H2S. Reaktor biofiltrasi terdiri dari dua buah kolom yang diletakkan berurutan dengan tinggi reaktor 1 sebesar 1.9 m dengan kapasitas 60 L dan tinggi reaktor 2 sebesar 1.7 m berkapasitas 53 L. Kondisi operasi selama proses biofiltrasi berlangsung dijaga pada suhu 25-30oC dan tekanan 1 atm. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan memvariasikan perlakukan kinerja biofiltrasi melalui perlakukan tanja injeksi mikroba dan dengan injeksi mikroba yang diawali dengan aklimatisasi, selanjutnya dengan memberikan suplai oksigen tambahan sebagai variasi percobaan, dan variasi laju alir influen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan proses aklimatisasi berlangsung selama 36 jam. Perlakuan yang digunakan terhadap medium filter yang menggunakan perlakuan tanpa injeksi memberikan kondisi terbaik dalam menyisihkan NH3 dan H2S. Aerasi tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap penyisihan senyawa NH3 dan H2S, laju alir influen sebesar 1.98 L/min memberikan efisiensi penyisihan tertinggi masing masing sebesar 81.17% untuk NH3 dan 99.88%. untuk H2S. Kata kunci: biofiltrasi, sabut sawit, limbah cair, sour water, H2S dan NH3.

Deskripsi Alternatif :

Biofiltration techniques is the appropriate alternative of waste water treatment to control the sour water pollution problems in PT Pertamina (Persero) RU-III. NH3 and H2S compounds was eliminate by using a biofilter columns of palm fiber as the filter medium. Reactor modification by using tray to tray system can help oxygen supply for decomposer microbes to eliminate NH3 and H2S compounds. Two bofiltration reactor installed with height 1.9 m for first reactor and 1.7 m for second reactor. The first reactor has a capacity 60 L and the second 53 L. The operating conditions during biofiltration process takes place is maintained at a temperature of 25-30 oC and 1 atm pressure. Biological waste water treatment requiring acclimatization process that aims to microbial adaptation to the new environment and nutrition. Acclimatization process last for 36 hours. The treatment that used to the filter medium are without injection of microbes and by injection of microbes treatments. The first treatment was utilize natural microbes which grow in the palm fiber whereas the second treatment used microbial decomposition of NH3 and H2S which grow in banana leaves to be injected into the palm fiber. The main factor for the successful application of biofiltration techniques is the selection of appropriate treatment to the sour water. An appropriate treatment for the sour water is the treatment without the injection of microbes with an influent flow rate of 1.98 L/min and additional aeration to maintain the stability of biofiltration process. The result of removal efficiency of NH3 and H2S compounds are obtained already quite high, each showing 81.17% and 99.88%. Keywords: biofiltration, palm fiber, waste water, sour water, H2S and NH3.
