This research is about an analysis of translation techniques for translating noun clauses in the motivational book entitled The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change written by Stephen. R. Covey. Some noun clauses containing certain relative pronouns such as what, which, who, where, when, and how cannot be translated literally because every language has different grammatical rules especially Indonesian. The purposes of the present project are finding out the types of noun clauses, analyzing the translation techniques used for translating the noun clauses and measuring the quality of accuracy and acceptability of the noun clause translation. Qualitative method was used in conducting this project. The theories proposed by Narayanaswamy (2004), Thomson and Martinet (1986) and Eastwood (1994) were used for identifying noun clauses. In analyzing translation techniques used, the research uses the theory proposed by Molina and Albir (2002). The theory proposed by Nababan, Nuraeni and Sumardiono (2012) was used for measuring the quality of translation. The result shows that there are 36 (53%) noun clauses as object, 20 (29%) noun clauses as object of preposition, six (9%) noun clauses as complement and six (9%) noun clauses as subject. Translating noun clauses with literal technique is the most used by the translator. Furthermore, the result of the translation quality is accurate and less acceptable. Keywords: noun clause translation, the quality of noun clause translation,
translation techniques.
