Air Conditioning System Design for POLBAN Server Room

Data processing room, or sometimes called computer /server room, needs a special room condition in order to maintain the performance of such equipment. High temperature and humidity could cause the decrease of performance, and even equipment failure. Data processing equipment, especially server, dissipates high sensible heat that needs to be handled. In this research, the cooling load calculation of POLBAN server room has been carried out. Most of the loads are from server equipment, and the remaining are from solar radiation, conduction of building structures, lights, people, infiltration, and ventilation. The total room load is 14.15 kW, with an RSHR of 0.974. The total coil load is 14.36 kW, in which 96.5% is sensible. Compared to the area, the server room is classified as moderately populated. To handle the load, a precision air conditioning unit with a minimum capacity of 14.36 kW is needed. However, for anticipating the growth of the load density, an extra capacity of 40% is recommended. Especially when the load density of the server room grows to highly populated.
