The Motives of Young Adult's Consumption Towards Analogue Photography Practice in Bandung

The study aims to learn consumer's motivation towards analogue photography practice. As the industrial revolution emerges, the technology development is simultaneously increasing. Therefore, a resurgence of interest in analogue photography has been recognized, as well as the increased developmental progress within the analogue photography industry. Nevertheless, the fact that the practice used to be very segmented, unlike today, the growth and development of analogue photography industry coincide within the modern period where technology is simultaneously expanded. As the shifted culture visibly shown within young adult society, the research emphasizes on young adult consumers as well as analogue photography enthusiasts in Bandung. The study was conducted through in-depth interviews with 16 participants who have interested in analogue photography that considered to be young adults (18-35 years old). The triangulation method was used to validate the data that gained, by comparing participant's different backgrounds. Nevertheless, the data analysis method that used in this literature is thematic analysis by manually transcribed the interviews. The result shows that the motives of young adult's consumption towards analogue photography practice in Bandung are social media exposure, recommendations & assignments, and peer exposure, personal value, sense of mystery or surprises, curiosity, the visual authenticity & character, and tangible appeal, lack of interest. It is also found what motivates them to continuously purchase the analogue photography practices in a long-term, it is because the worthy of willingness to spend money, increased technical intelligence & skill, some found it as blissful activity, financially beneficial, generate new friends, communities and professional links, also each consumer has attachment as historic nostalgia and personal nostalgia. Furthermore, along the process of the research it is also found that analogue photography industrial development in Bandung leads into two different kinds of consumer's attitude, there are positive and negative consumer's attitude. Consumer's positive attitude are including the increased amount of facilitations, communities, analogue photography exhibitions, analogue camera users and exposures, employments, and new service of choice in photography business. While for the consumer's negative attitude it comprises of dysfunctional use for societal matter, aggravated price and experienced inadequate service.
