This project is entitled 'A Textual Analysis of Song Lyrics Sung by Westlife'. The object chosen for this project is ten songs sung by Westlife for they have the characteristic of the clear story flowing and strong rhyming. The present writer analyzed the kinds of figurative language used, the tone, and the theme of the song in order to understand the meanings. The method used to analyze the song. The focus of the project is ten selected Westlife song entitled 'The Dance''I'll See You Again', 'Love Can Build a Bridge', 'I Lay My Love on You', 'Queen of My Heart', 'The Rose', 'Amazing', 'Desperado', 'I Wanna Grow Old with You', and 'Flying without Wings'. The brief result of this project can be concluded as follows: the kinds of figurative language used are various, but not all types of it were found, such as: irony, chiasmus, litotes, onomatopoeia, pun, and understatement. The tones usually appear in the songs are happiness, love, sadness, disappointment, rigidity, sincerity, and motivation. Not all the themes of the songs are about happy love story or broken heart story. The meaning of the song cannot simply identified by its title, therefore the listeners need to listen to the song thoroughly and understand the beyond literal meaning to understand what is the meaning of the song.
