Hybrid Solar System Technology Acceptance: Empirical Evidence from Bandung

Climate change has become a serious environmental issue caused by green-house gas emissions (GHG). Kebijakan Energi Nasional (KEN) is a policy to reduce GHG emissions in Indonesia by maximizing public renewable energy utilization. Its ability to solving this issue is proven in the projection of GHG emissions growth data. On the other hand, Hybrid Solar System exists to become the most appropriate solution to this as solar is available in Indonesia, and it provides a financial advantage. In order to make the transition from fuel-based electricity to solar successful, understanding about which factors that influence its adoption the most is crucial. Further, it will lead to the creation of well-designed approaches by the collaboration of some parties. This study uses an integrated renewable energy acceptance model consists of cost and knowledge as the external factors, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, social influence, attitude, and behavioral intention. The distribution of questionnaires to 368 Bandung's residents is chosen as the method of data collection. Further, Partial Least Square Modeling is used as the analysis method to test the hypotheses. The result reveals that attitude is the most important construct for HSS adoption. Meanwhile, attitude is mostly influenced by perceived usefulness. The finding also shows an insignificant effect of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness toward intention to use HSS. From a theoretical perspective, this study extends the understanding of technology acceptance model application for HSS adoption. Moreover, this study suggests a social marketing approach called as Bandung Bersih campaign to lead the public transition from fuel-based electricity.
