As a measure of financial health, four financial ratios (liquidity ratios, leverage ratios, activity ratios, and profitability ratios) may each other give contradictory results causing difficulties in evaluating a corporate financial health. To overcome the contradictory results, the dimensions of observed financial ratios are proposed to be reduced to a composite index as a unique measure of industrial financial health. This task is conducted by the principal component analysis,a popular multivariate technique. Adopting a case of 1992-1996 data of shoe's industry in Cibaduyut Bandung, this technique has successfully constructed the index under consideration use of the index, a list of ranked companies' financial health has also been reported in this study.
