Rendahnya temperatur air umpan boiler menyebabkan proses penguapan menjadi lebih lama dan memakan banyak energi. Adanya feedwater heater pada sistem PLTU digunakan untuk meningkatkan kualitas air umpan dari sisi temperatur. Penggunaan feedwater heater sebagai pemanas mula air umpan akan meningkatkan temperatur air umpan hingga mendekati titik jenuhnya. Rancangan closed feedwater heaters bertekanan rendah bertujuan untuk meningkatkan temperatur air umpan sebelum masuk ke boiler pada PLTU berkapasitas rendah. Metode Kern merupakan metode yang digunakan dalam rancangan closed feedwater heaters ini dengan merujuk kepada berbagai standard rancangan heat exchanger, seperti ASME PTC 12.1, Heat Exchanger Instiute (HEI), dan Tubular Exchanger Manufacturer Association (TEMA). Hasil dari perancangan closed feedwater heaters ini berupa dimensi dengan panjang pipa 3,048 m dan jumlah pipa sebanyak 246 pipa yang menggunakan material AISI A219, diameter shell 0.486 m dengan material Stainless Steel (ferritic) dan menghasilkan temperatur keluaran feedwater sebesar 99 oC. Analisa rancangan berupa aliran steam di dalam closed feedwater heater dan distribusi thermal disimulasikan menggunakan software Ansys dengan kecepatan tertinggi 22.43 m/s dan terendah 1.18 m/s di dalam tube bundle dengan temperatur masuk steam 144 oC dan keluaran 139 oC. Analisa penghematan energi di sisi ekonomiser menggunakan gatecycle didapat nilai rata-rata penghematan energi sebesar 1837.92 kW atau setara dengan penghematan batu bara kelas sub bituminous dengan GCV 14650 kJ/kg sebesar 0.12 kg/s atau 0.43 Ton/jam. Description Alternative :The low of boiler feedwater temperature causing evaporation process have been longer and too mach energy losses. Existence of feedwater heater on steam power plant will increase the quality of feedwater on temperature side. Utilization of feedwater heater as feedwater preheat will increase the temperature enclosed saturated temperature. Design of closed feedwater heaters with low pressure heater (LPH) in a certain direction to increase temperature of feedwater before enter to the boiler. Kernâs method that use to design of closed feedwater heater refer to any standards designing heat exchangers, ASME PTC 12.1, Heat Exchanger Instiute (HEI), and Tubular Exchanger Manufacturer Association (TEMA). The result of design closed feedwater heaters is about dimension with 3.048 m length, 246 number of tubes using AISI A219 materails, 0.486 m shell diameter using stainless steel (ferritic) and 99 oC output of feedwater. Flow analysis have simulated using ansys software with 22.43 m/s highest and 1.18 m/s lowest velocity on middle of tube bundle with 144 oC inlet temperature and 139 oC output of steam temperature. Analysis of energy saving on economizer side is 1837.92 kW average using gatecycle software this is same as with 0.12 kg/s or 0.43 Ton/hour using sub bituminous 14650 kj/kg GCV.
